Polarity Attended ”Floral Whisper Along the Silk Road”

If you are following our blog you already know that Polarity Technologies‘ team last evening was about to attend a Chinese cultural event, called ”Floral Whisper Along the Silk Road”.

Our overall impression was excellent, since the event exceeded our expectations. It was very well organized and very pleasant.

We arrived at Hilton Park Hotel at 19:30 where Chinese hostesses in Qipao  escorted us to the room entrance.  A group of musicians were playing Chinese Folk Music right outside the room and a Chinese girl placed branded lapel pins on our clothing. We were even asked to put our signatures on the big foam board that was placed behind. Wow, such a warm welcome!

During the event we watched some very unique performances from Chinese Artists. We got impressed! All of the performances was demonstrating aspects of the Chinese culture and history.

The event ended with cocktail, networking and dance.

More details in regards to the aim of event you may find in our previous post. If you enjoy reading our news follow  Polarity Technologies Ltd on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.

We Can’t Wait For Tonight

Here in Polarity Technologies Ltd we love learning about foreign cultures and interacting with people of different ethnic backgrounds. Since Polarity Technologies‘ mother company is located in Beijing, we have a particular interest in Chinese culture and we embrace every opportunity to get familiarized with Chinese history, mentality and language.

Considering this, you can probably understand how excited we got when our Mandarin teacher Meimei Han invited us to the “Floral Whisper Along the Silk Road”; a cultural event aiming to promote cooperation and communication between Chinese cities and countries along the Maritime Silk Road.

The event will take place tonight in Nicosia as part of its international tour, which will be completed in three years from now. The first stop of the tour was Sri Lanka, and was held on the 21st of September.  The event is hosted by the Administration of culture, Radio, Film, Television, Press and Publication of Guangzhou Municipality.

According to BBC, Twitter has told an undisclosed number of users their private messages may have been leaked to third-parties for more than a year.

Polarity Technologies Ltd learned that the software “bug”, which has since been fixed, involved direct messages between users and businesses that offer customer services via Twitter.

Affected users are being notified via a message that appeared when opening the app or logging on to Twitter’s website.

“The issue has persisted since May 2017,” Twitter said.

The company said it had resolved the issue immediately upon discovering it, on 10 September.

The company did not say precisely how many users it had notified, but said in a statement it amounted to fewer than 1% of its total users.

The network has 335m monthly active users, according to the firm’s latest figures, published in July.

Amazon is Investigating Claims that Employees Deleted Reviews and Sold Sales Data

Polarity Technologies Ltd learned from The Verge that The Wall Street Journal published a report which revealed that sellers have bribed Amazon employees to get access to internal sales data or to delete negative reviews, and that the company has launched an investigation into the practice.

According to the report, middlemen use social media sites like WeChat to track down Amazon employees, offering them cash to turn over internal information or to delete negative reviews. The WSJ also reports that it costs roughly $300 to take down a bad review, with brokers “[demanding] a five-review minimum” per transaction. Amazon employees have also been asked to provide e-mail addresses of customers who left negative reviews, or to provide sales information to give sellers an edge against their competitors. To combat the behavior, an Amazon spokesperson told the WSJ that it has implemented “systems to restrict and audit what employees can access.”

What Happened Yesterday at ”Escape the Room”

As you may have already read at a previous article of our blog, Polarity Technologies’ team has planned to play the escape game.

An escape room, is a physical adventure game in which players solve a series of puzzles and riddles using clues, hints, and strategy to complete the objectives at hand. Players are given a set time limit to unveil the secret plot which is hidden within the rooms.

The game Polarity Technologies has chosen to play was called ”The Mission”. A missile was about to be launched and target our headquarters. Polarity Technologies’ mission was to enter the underground control room  and stop the launch. None of us has played any escape game before, therefore when we entered the room it took us a while to figure out what we were supposed to do.

As soon as we solved the first riddle, things got easier…But not as easy as we hoped. The important thing is that we were cheering  each other on after every small win, we came closer through collaboration and we had an awesome time together. The night ended with dinner and drinks at Bastione.

If you are a team player who loves games, stay tuned for future job openings. Meanwhile, you can learn about Polarity’s little adventures on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.

Finding Datasets Just Got A Whole Lot Easier Thanks To Google

Just last week, Google released a new type of search engine specifically designed around the idea of helping people find data. It’s named “Dataset Search” and essentially it provides easy access to millions of datasets across thousands of data repositories on the web. Dataset Search is currently for everyone to use with easy access. Google stated the benefits this new launch specifically has for journalists and data scientists “To enable easy access to this data, we launched Dataset Search, so that scientists, data journalists, data geeks, or anyone else can find the data required for their work and their stories, or simply to satisfy their intellectual curiosity.” According to Search Engine Journal, this new Google engine search is largely dependent on the schema markup for dataset providers that was rolled out in July.

Dataset Search is available in multiple languages and works just like any other search engine. Just type in what you’re looking for and Google will return relevant datasets. For more awesome industry news, be sure to check out Polarity’s page on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.
